Preparing your child for a transition to kindergarten
Kindergarten is a big step in your child’s life. Often kids are nervous about starting school at a new place. However parents can help the children get ready for the changes so that the transition becomes easier. Most of the time children are worried about kindergarten because it is a first time they would be visiting a structured school setting. For most children going from a small classroom in a preschool to a big room with lots of kids can be overwhelming.
Your child’s transition would also depend upon how they respond to it. There are certain children who are excited by any new experience and can’t wait to go to a bigger School. However there are some children who are introvert and might be nervous about. Sometimes even a child who is excited at the beginning might respond in a very different manner the first day they walk into the classroom door. Children enter kindergarten with different level of readiness. There are few children who are already prepared and have all the skills which are necessary to help them. They know all the alphabets and can count to ten as well while there are other children who are not there yet.
The following ways would help make the transition much easier.
Preparing your child for Launceston kindergarten
The first thing parents can do to prepare the child for kindergarten is to practice the necessary skills. For example children would be learning to form letters and hold a pencil. If a child has not master the skills yet now would be a good time to teach them. It can also help your child become less stress free if they are able to keep up with other children in the class. As a kindergartener your child is also required to cut out different shapes it is best that you teach them the use of kid friendly Scissors.
Another way of helping a child is to set out a bed time or a morning routine. Morning schedule can be helpful for the child if it is according to their schedule at Kindergarten. If you move that time you enable your children to follow a routine. It would be best because school starts in the morning and your child is to be active and awake by the time they reach School.
If your child is still taking naps you might need to break the habit or perhaps make the nap shorter. When you cut the length of the nap time by a few minutes it would help them change to an earlier bedtime as well.
Main challenges kindergarteners face are that they are expected to follow directions. You can practice the same in a fun way at home as well. Make your child do different activities which are broken down into two or three steps. You can start with arts and crafts or playing any new game. Once your child is aware of the steps it would be easy for them to follow the instructions given by the teachers.
